That old rule "never play for stacks in a limped pot without the nuts" must apply here

[/ QUOTE ]

wtf rule is that

the one I've heard is not to stack off with 1pair type hands

[/ QUOTE ]

Doyle Brunson talks about it. He calls it "don't go broke in an unraised pot", when talking about laying down 22 on a J42 board.

[/ QUOTE ]

a J42r board is miles different from a KJ9 board in terms of potential hands that can be out there and put money in

blindly approaching limped pots with the mantra only put the stack in with the nuts is a bad idea

also any motto that ignores the other player is really weak, there are plenty of players that you instacall a shove on a J42 board with 22, or instacall here with KJ

Doyle Brunson says a lot things that either don't work at low limits, or are just plain wrong IMO.

Doyle says in Syper System that you should:
1) c-bet 100% of the time when you were the pf raiser, or that at least that he played this way
2) always lead into the pf raiser with a big hand
3) rarely check-raise

I don't agree with either of those, especially #1.

Just use pokerstove, this problem is a simple math question here.

Assuming opponent can't have KK, JJ his range is KJ, K9, J9, 99, QT and lets assume he plays them all the same way:

Board: Ks 9h Jc
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 37.426% 30.03% 07.40% 8621 2124.00 { KhJs }
Hand 1: 62.574% 55.18% 07.40% 15841 2124.00 { 99, KJs, QTs, J9s, KJo, QTo, J9o }

So our equity is 1:1.67 when we call, but the pot is giving us only 1:1.46 (120.6 : 82.6). Thus, it is EV- to call.

Adding KK, JJ to his range will make the call even worse.

Thanks for taking the time to respond everyone, glad to see some thoughts about this hand get kicked around while I was sleeping (up late chopping the 55k FT causes you to sleep in the next day )

I did fold this, I didn't want to, but damnit, it was tough .. I can't remember making a fold like this in a while. I could only seeing him doing that with 99 or QT. If this had been raised PF (I'm not calling on the button with KJo), then I may have a better time calling this, but as it stood, I was completely lost.
