[ QUOTE ]
He is getting 13-1 to call flop, 14-1 including the guy behind him. He only needs like ~3.5 outs to make the call. Another 3 is very likely to be good - 2 outs. He also has the ace of diamonds. Good call. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, the backdoor nut flush draw is worth 1.5 outs, plus the two threes. He has pot odds even without the ace overcard. |

[ QUOTE ] i didn't see he had the ace of diamonds. but don't you agree with my point that he's calling with marginal odds assuming his outs are good, fair enough, but forgetting how much he loses if he is involved against one of the hands previously listed. which in this case is so so likely. [/ QUOTE ] Pot odds, bro. He's getting the odds to peel, no matter how "slim" his chances may be. It's a bad beat, yes. Chalk it up to variance and move on. Today I got KK cracked by both T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] when BOTH idiots called 3 bets preflop, and BOTH idiots outflopped me, in the same hand! You figure that one out...It happens. [/ QUOTE ] Flop is three cards, right? |

One flops a flush, the other a straight..and they both lose when another player rivers a bucket of chicken.

Aren't there some negative implied odds here? He's gonna get killed if custom flopped a set, and the backdoor nut flush draw could cost him a ton too if someone else makes a flush on the turn and he gets taken along for a ride. And the ace is obviously some trouble because it could cost him a lot if he makes aces up and loses to a better hand. In general, when you are faced with making a very marginally profitable call due to getting big odds to hit a two-outer or something, mightn't it be better to just fold and take the (worst case) imperceptible negative EV, for the sake of avoiding huge fluctuations? Also if you call on all of these long-odds situations, it seems like it would result in you having more overall losing sessions, and even the best players don't play quite as well when they're losing as when they're winning or breaking even; average players probably have a bigger dropoff in play when they're losing. Any validity to these points or am I just pulling stuff out of my @$$?

Playing 5 handed I don't think your range is skewed that heavily to AQ, AJ, QQ or JJ. Preflop is still terrible, of course.

he played badly, just a tough hand, ur just questioning it due to the final outcome. I dont get ur post about people claiming to be up 100's of thousands, i played 15/30 alot and was up over 100K last year. If you are playing 30/60 and 50/100 alot and not up this much u might have some issues.
