If you have 6 teams in the tourney, chances are you'll have a few great teams and a few good teams. If everyone was great in the big conference, then a few crappier teams that are huge underdogs to win 2 games would get in. When you have a conference with only 2 decent teams, this becomes more feasible, especially if one gets lucky for 2 games.

ACC didn't have a really strong 2nd team like it usually does. First time since 1979 that there weren't two S16 teams. Look at the Polls, there was only 1 ACC team in the top 16. I know if you look at Kenpom you'll get a different story, but I'm sorry Duke wasn't a top 16 team to end the season.
