[ QUOTE ] Cautious optimism appropriate? [/ QUOTE ] I wish I knew how to be cautiously optimistic with regard to this subject. Unfortunately I turn into an excited retard with a lolly-pop when I read posts like this. I can feel the endorphins rushing through my brain. [/ QUOTE ] It sounds like this guy is in a pretty good position to repeal the law. Is his job anything related to the people who have to write the regulations? |

[/ QUOTE ] I think there are some medications that can help with that. |

[ QUOTE ]
The only mainstream reference that I found to Barney Frank trying to repeal the UIGEA is here. His involvement is still in the rumor and speculation mode. There are blogs that reference the move and having his spokesperson deny that he's trying anything. Then, there is another article from the Financial Times where one would need to pay for a subscription that leads into Frank's involvement. [/ QUOTE ] The FT does not deal with rumour and ramping, this Bloomberg report has some nice quotes (early days yet though): [ QUOTE ] March 14 (Bloomberg) -- Online-gambling stocks rose after the Financial Times said House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank wants to repeal a law passed last year that criminalized the industry. Shares of Gibraltar-based PartyGaming Plc, the world's biggest Internet poker operator, had their biggest gain in 15 months. Shares of 888 Holdings Plc and SportingBet Plc also advanced in London. ``I am working on legislation to cut back on this Internet gambling thing,' the FT cited Frank as saying on its Web site, referring to last year's law. ``I think it's preposterous,' and the law is one of the ``stupidest' ever passed, the FT cited him as saying. ``Maybe we can make some money off it,' he added. Online-gaming stocks plummeted across Europe in October after Congress unexpectedly banned the collection of credit-card payments from gambling Web sites. ``The slightest indicator that operators may get business back in the U.S. is going to get speculators coming in,' said Andrew French, a sales trader at E*Trade Securities in London. Stock in Gibraltar-based PartyGaming, the world's biggest Internet poker operator, rose as much as 8.5 pence, or 22 percent, to 46.5 pence, and traded at 43.5 pence as of 3:32 p.m. local time. SportingBet, the owner of Paradise Poker, gained 3.5 pence, or 6.2 percent, to 59.25 pence. 888 added 5.75 pence, or 5 percent, to 121.75 pence. [/ QUOTE ] |

Edited [/ QUOTE ] Who says irrational prejudice is no longer a common problem in the "civilized" west? Barney Frank gave one of the best speeches against this law when it was up for a house vote. I suspect his sympathy is with us precisely because he knows what its like to be part of a misunderstood and looked down on minority. Grow up nineinchal ... and quit picking on one of poker's most important allies - you only show your own ignorance and lack of class. Skallagrim |

Barney Frank is a libertarian and we need to support him in any way we can. The fact that he is gay doesn't change anything. Grow up.
