Yeah, I think the problem is just that there is no way to get value unless he has an ace or thinks I'm floating and has the stones to make a move on the pot. So I just have to bet and hope one of those situations occurs. After betting and him folding, I thought maybe my hand is so strong that he is often drawing dead and I should check to let him catch up/bluff. But I guess my first thought was correct and I was just being results oriented.

what's he gonna catch up to on that board that's gonna want to call a river bet? (assuming he's drawing dead on the turn). i dont think JK's calling you much if he hits 2nd pr on the river. much more value in betting and having him make a rare move here or getting value from aces

agree. i thought maybe KJ would call a bet putting me on a smaller pocket pair if he caught up. or maybe he bluffs river. but i think that's really just results-oriented thinking and my natural desire for FPS. i guess i played the hand fine and just got unlucky that he didnt have a hand or the read/desire to make a move.

I think if you check behind here, you show that you were not floating and want to see a showdown. If you bet, you could have anything, especially if you're lag.
