Blah. I hate sitations like this. If the old dude bet in the dark, I think folding might save a bet, but calling might save your sanity. I hate folding big hands in big pots, but if there's ever a time to do it, it's against a guy who C/3-bet the turn and fired blind on the river. I don't know if I have it in me to fold, but then again, I'm not JT.

This dark bet looks like a guy with a QJ trying to look like a 109.

i was there but i dont want to taint the results.

i will say that i had aces, and as soon as joe c/r'ed the flop i was thinking i might very well be looking at 66. should i play the turn differently given that?

[/ QUOTE ]

you played it fine, he could hold a suited ace/pair combo (although A6s is probably only one as he would raise A8s i guess).

Old guys are some of the leading candidates to be sufferers of "Old Guy Syndrome." If an OGS sufferer happens to make the nuts at the poker table in a big pot with one or more cards left to come, the afflicted usually will make irrational assumptions about the upcoming card(s), assuming that life will [censored] all over him again and turn his hand to shambles. He will then remain paralyzed in fear until the river card is turned over. This behavior can usually be traced to early childhood, especially if they grew up during the Great Depression, when it was customary for parents to subject their children to beatings on Christmas morning and many pedophiles lured children into back alleys with promises of ribbon candy.

In short, unless this guy is up a whole bunch of racks and talking about how he just got his OGS shots earlier that day, I don't believe his actions are the actions of a old guy with the nuts.

I like donking these flops more than 50% with QJs on the board.

It sure seems like there's no way your hand could be good, but who knows what lurks in the mind of someone that is part of making the game great.

Was his 3-bet a "righteous checkraise?"
