Re: Niagara/Toronto - Things todo besides poker
[ QUOTE ]
Spend Saturday or Sunday afternoon in Niagara On The Lake. Lots of interesting little shops and restaurants. You can also do a few wineries in the area. [/ QUOTE ] QFT. You'll probably want to forget about the poker at Niagara, but while you're down there you can score some MAJOR brownie points with Niagara-on-the-Lake. This place is like every chick's fantasy. Quaint downtown shopping district, beautiful historic houses, carriage rides around town, etc, etc. The wine tours we went on were pretty sweet as well. If I remember right, we went to "Chateau de Charms" and the "Jackson Triggs" wineries, and blew a TON of money on wine. Between Niagara and Niagara-on-the-Lake there's the botanical gardens, which my wife was all about. If you're a baller (or looking to waste a bunch of money on an anniversary like me), check out the restaurant at the top of the Fallsview Marriot. If you get one of the later reservation times, and a table near the window, you can have a $300 dinner, complete with sommelier service while the fireworks are going off over the falls (not sure if they do this year-round). Also, after dinner, the walk overlooking the falls between the Marriot and the Fallsview Casino is really nice. Anyway, yeah... Niagara and Niagara-on-the-Lake are pretty much whatever you make them. If you want them to be a chincy wax-museum tourist-trap, they can be. If you want to make them a romantic weekend, you can. If you want to ditch your wife and gamboool all weekend, you can do that too. Just saying... by sacrificing your dignity for a weekend, and skipping the casino for two days, you can score more brownie trips in two days than you will for the rest of the year. She'll be loving every second of this. By the way, is Lord of the Rings still playing in Toronto? That was another trip my wife loved (seperate trips, a few months apart). |

Re: Niagara/Toronto - Things todo besides poker
they have a fireworks schedule but basically 1 a month they are shooting them off at some point.
. Basically If you really love your wife, you show her the falls and then go to Niagara on the Lake , go to a fancy bed and breakfast. Take her out to dinner downtown and rent "love story" and watch it with her in the Jacuzzi. If you sort love your wife. You take her on a day trip to NOTL , stay in Niagara Falls have dinner at Marriot or Hilton (resturant at Fallsview Casino option as well) possibly go to Casino after or again Clifton hill. If you just are kind of dragging her along, stay at the Casino or Hilton (get the jacuzzi room because hey your a nice guy) bring her to the Noodle Bar at the Casino and drop her by the nickle slots. FWIW if you are going to play poker at Fallsview call them and get your name on a list 2-3 hours before you plan on being there. Get the name of the person who put you on the list to becuase they tend to "forget" to put you on it. |

Re: Niagara/Toronto - Things todo besides poker
If you have time during the day or if your wife needs something to do while you are in a meeting, I suggest a visit to the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art
Top floor presently showing '100 years of functional ceramics in Canada' had few interesting pieces but on the other 2 floors I was blown away. All kinds of old European pieces, an extensive collection of Mayan, Incan and related material. The very last piece I ran across was a huge Picasso vase. I wasn't that interested in attending but was overwhelmingly glad I did by the end. |
