Re: Selection Sunday
[ QUOTE ]
I watch Selection Sunday every year. This is the first year I have ever watched not knowing if my team (Purdue) will get in or not. You always feel for those teams they show that never see their name on the board, but I really couldn't relate until now. It really is agonizing. Most of my friends are in a state of denial thinking it is clear we are in. I think it is more like 60%, and I wouldn't be surprised either way. I just want to get it over with. I can't speculate without extreme bias, so I will not bother to pick my teams. Austiger, I hope you are wrong, or Arkansas gets beaten down today, and you change your mind for that last spot . [/ QUOTE ] Jerry Palm is a Purdue alum, so he's in the same boat with his picks. I can empathize because Auburn was on the bubble in '03 and barely got in. Someone from CBS later admitted that Ohio State would have been the 10 seed in the East had they upset Illinois in the Big10 final to get the automatic bid that year. Auburn was the 10 seed in the East, so that tells you whose spot they would have taken. Auburn was the only team Lunardi missed that year in his projection. Take heart in the fact that Auburn went on to upset the 7 and 2 seeds before losing to Melo and Syracuse by 1 in the Sweet 16. I am 99% sure that the committee will have the 65 teams selected by now, with a contingency plan on the winners and losers of the games today. Time constaints just won't allow them to say "let's see if Arkansas loses in a close game today or a blowout" so Purdue's fate is likely decided by now. |

Re: Selection Sunday
The head of the committee just confirmed that they have the field selected, but not seeded. He said they have contingency plans based on the games today.

Re: Selection Sunday
I am rooting against NC State of course to save a spot. I would not be bitter all if they pull this off and take Purdue's spot. Beating Duke, Virginia, Va. Tech, and UNC in a four day span is incredible and deserving of a spot on its own merits.

Maryland a 4 seed?!? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah I thought that was really high too. I can't see Pitt on a higher line than Texas A&M either. |
