Isn't it a sign of intelligence to forget or ignore unimportant information?

I never forget a face and I never remember a name. It is so bad that when I'm introduced to someone for the first time I apologize in advance for not remembering their name the next time we meet.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm 100% the same.

I'm even better at remembering phone numbers than names - got no idea why. Some people claim it's a lack of interest, but honestly, it happened a few times, that I met this hot chick, and really wanted to see her again, but I'd still forget her name within 2-3 days.
I even forgot the name of my ex-girlfriend of 2 years - I met her again a year later and felt like crap trying sooo hard to remember. I would've been able to dial her number in a second, though.

if so I must be really intelligent , I forget useless stuff all the time. Makes it kinda awkward to talk about books and movies and stuff (in detail) as I forget most of the stuff happening and just remember the really important stuff.

As towards faces I usually remember people pretty well however

We talked about facial cognition in my cognitive science class in college. Some people just aren't as good at it as others, and you may be one of them.

Do you smoke a lot of weed?

[/ QUOTE ]

this has nothing to do with anything.

I smoke daily and have been stoned meeting people for the first time. Names and Faces I remember usually first or 2nd try.

I am horrible with faces. I've gone up to people who I thought were people I knew (not well) - this one time the guy got all excited and hung up his cell phone because he thought he knew me too.

I even used to do this with girls I had crushes on. "Oh look there's that girl I like" "Um that's not the girl you pointed out yesterday".

Also when sitting at a live poker table, after about 20 minutes I start thinking I've known these people for a long time. "Didn't he go to my high school?" "Didn't he play in a tournament here a year ago?"

So my quirk is that I recognize/pseudo-recognize people too much, not the other way around.
