[ QUOTE ]
I go home angry and confused as to why this supervisor is taking personal issue with me when I have not done anything to warrant it, and I wonder what will happen in the future now that I have shouted at her and gone to her boss. Have any of you had experiences with impudent insane evil floor people? How do you keep them from messing up your day? How do you ignore them when you have to deal with them everyday? How do you deal with the fact that what you really want to say you cant or you will be thrown out? [/ QUOTE ] Just substitute any business that has to deal with the public all the time (i.e., Motor Vehicle Bureau, fast food server, etc). It almost definitely isn't personal - taking it personally and berating the floorperson (or whomever) will never serve you. It will now make it personal. And it will give them a real reason to shortchange you. My strategy when I get angry first, is to apologize and tell them I am having a bad day. Then I always tell them I know it isn't their fault - that they are only doing their job. I also tell them that I am extremely frustrated about the situation. This often works to turn around their attitude. They are used to being verbally abused and mostly they are just doing their job. In this case though, you have a problem. Now she may be out to get you - because you made her look bad. So protect yourself the best way you can. I always stand right next to the board when I am on top of the list. I too was "called" and missed it - but I allow for the possibility that I really missed it. When you leave a table, note the time with the other players and the dealer (maybe even write it down and leave it with your chips). Though I wouldn't leave for too long at this point. If I ever truly believe that I am being singled out personally - and receiving substandard treatment I would probably not come back - unless its the only game in town... |

[ QUOTE ]
The first incident occurred as follows: my name is first on the list. She is working the podium. I am sitting at a slot machine a few feet away. I hear the 2nd persons name called for a game. I run up to the podium. "Hey, wait I was first," to which she says with a weird smile, "I already called you sir, you're lucky you came up I was about to roll you to the bottom of the list. I'll let it slide this time." WTF?!?! I say to myself. I'm sure she did not call my name. Had I not been paying attention, she probably would have erased my name claiming to have already announced it. So I let this incident slide, although I am irked by it. I cant help thinking she was intentionally trying to skip by me so that I could be put on the bottom of the list. [/ QUOTE ] Get over yourself. She made a mistake (of course it is impossible that you 'spaced out' and did not hear your name). She didn't know you from Adam and had no reason to be out to get you. Yet. [ QUOTE ] A few weeks later I am playing, leave to go to dinner on the Pokerpro, press sit-out and get up to go eat. I call my friend on the cell-phone as soon as I get up, at 9:15. I go to the buffet, come back, and she has pulled my place off of the game. She runs up to me and says, "Sir, you have been gone way to long, an hour and a half, so I pulled you off the game." Confused and annoyed I wonder WTF has happened, as I never take longer than an hour and I have a good internal time clock. She proceeds to tell me she will put me on the bottom of the list and that she has been here a full two hours and what not. I am totally confused as I know I have not been gone two hours. I look at my phone to see that I only called my friend a half hour ago. I ask her to look but she wont hear any arguments and she is done with it. [/ QUOTE ] 1. I assume the PokerPro does not have a timestamp/history feature that lets the Floor check to see when you left. 2. Gee. You leave for an hour and a half. Then you call your friend. Then wait another half hour to return. Do you see why your "cell phone alibi" doesn't prove anything to her? 3. You are gone 20 minutes. Some nits at your want a full game (and maybe don't like you). Call her over. "He's been gone for 2 hours!!!!". I have seen it happen when the guy has only been gone 15 minutes and there is a long list. 4. Mistake? Yes. Out to get you? Doubtful. [ QUOTE ] Now I am steaming, and beginning to think something is wrong with this woman, having no judgement of time and no reason to take personal issue with me. I start to shout at her, which draws the attention of the entire room, as I am hardly even driven to anger. I leave the podium in disgust, take the issue up with the big boss who is extremely kind, fair and rational. I learn from another player the he has had a similar experience where she claimed to have called his name yet didnt. [/ QUOTE ] Again, you take it personally when the person just is not competent. Shouting doesn't help. Now she might make it personal, because of your actions. |

[ QUOTE ]
Know what? I have a problem with numerous redneck "floor persons", employed in Detroit casinos and ALL the Indiana joints. Today's casino environment is the new era of gaming. The Las Vegas gambling experience of days gone by is dead--days when joints thought of gamblers as suckers, but treated them like royalty. Now, the joints treat gamblers like a bunch of hopeless addicts. Worse, they act as though, they are doing you a "favor" by allowing you inside the joint. In Indiana you have "squares", who have never ventured outside the town limits of some backwater, with a population of 250 persons, being assigned as casino supervisors. You can't possess casino "people skills" when you've been in "Sunday school" all your life, then some politicians decide you should have a shot at casino employment, despite your general lack of ever being involved with people who gamble, and never having spoken with, or rarely even seen a black or other "minority" person. In short--There are a lot of jerks working in casinos and the joints DON'T GIVE A D--- about YOU, SO YOU MAY AS WELL STOP COMPLAINING. [/ QUOTE ] I know you're just venting but this is a bit of a generalization. I've been to 4 IN casinos and haven't had any unpleasent floor experiences, in fact several of them went out of their way to make a 1/2, 2/5 NL player feel wanted. That said, there are bad apples in every peck. Cody |

If I called you twice (no 3 strikes) and you don't show, it's not my fault. I've had people sitting at a slot machine 10 feet away from me walk over and freak out because someone lower on the list got seated. Of course I'm always at fault, even after I called their name twice and they didn't show up. |

Justin, I hear you. These other posters suggesting that the problem is more about “you” and the way you react to these situations are simply less observant of what’s really going on than you are. I have exactly the same issues time and again with floor people. It’s like they’re taking a perverse delight in screwing with me whenever I enter their rooms.
It really sucks, but there’s not much you can do about it since poker rooms are one of the few locations with EMF levels high enough to effectively screen out the signals and allow for a bit of relaxation. The floor people know this and figure it gives them a free shot at having fun at your expense since you can’t leave without the monitors picking you up again. Personally, despite the stress levels their behavior induces, I decided long ago to just suck it up and put up with this crap. Nonetheless, I really do sympathize with you. By the way, have you noticed the new color scheme on some of the helicopters? I had one monitoring my commute the other day that was a sort of light green. I didn’t spot it at first because I’m so used to looking for the black ones. They’re getting trickier and trickier. Good luck man. |

[/ QUOTE ] If you put aluminum foil in your hat with the shiny side out, to reflect the signals, you can rest just about anywhere. Underneath power lines is also good because the electromagnetic field jams their reception. Don't stay too long because the same electromagnetic field sheilding you will also give you brain cancer. |

Don't take the seat until you are called. Dealers and other players DO NOT DETERMINE who sits next.

Haha, unfortunately, there is also a rule against wearing tinfoil hats, and I really dont want to start any trouble with this floorperson again...
Hopefully the next time you encounter routine unfair treatment from a floorperson you will think of this thread, and how you helped contribute little but long sarcastic replies implying that the OP is paranoid. -J |
