Re: Random Thoughts on the Current State of Poker
I find this post to be utterly ridiculous. I am running at 2.1ptbb/100 @ the 400 since the legislation through 400k hands, and I've had a 100k hand break even streak which lasted the entire month of Dec, and I had a 50k hand breakeven streak which lasted from Jan 3 till Jan 20-something. By no means am I saying I'm one of the best @ the 2/4 limit, there are several other 2+2ers who I'd consider to be better then I am that play that level, but this does not mean that I'm not a "good" player @ that level. I have never played with you personally, nor have I ever watched you play, and you may be, and probably are better then I am @ poker, but with that being said, your estimate that everyone who goes through 100k hand breakeven stretches is "terrible" is simply out of touch with reality.

Re: Random Thoughts on the Current State of Poker
[ QUOTE ]
I have read about a number of well-known 2+2ers going through long-term (100k+ hands) breakeven or losing streaks. Without sounding like too much of a dick, I honestly believe that most of these players simply are not very talented poker players. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I had an 100K breakeven stretch ~6 months ago. I certainly wasn't a 5PTBB/100 winner in my games at that time or anything, but I was definately a winner - probably in the 1.5-2.0 range. It can (will) definately happen if your winrate is in that range. |

At all of these stakes (and especially 5/10NL), there are still a large number of simply terrible players. At least once a session I will review a hand where someone stacked off to me with an absolutely indefensible play. [/ QUOTE ] either you're running good or my game selection sucks |

cliff notes: Poker is hard. Only the best players win.
Still, interesting and well written post. |

Re: Random Thoughts on the Current State of Poker
if you play on Stars or Full Tilt a large downswing/breakeven stretch is inevitable. If you play some where with a little better game selection, it is not possible unless you suck. I found this out the hard way, though I was playing pretty bad on FTP.
I don't understand something about the OP though. If games are tougher, shouldn't some people be justified in quitting? If they were a small winner before, now they will be losing without really adjusting their games, which they may be unable to do effectively. Also, your thoughts about people who have played 100k+ hands at one level being advantaged over those who have played 50k hands at multiple levels while moving up I think makes 0 sense. That said, I basically agree with you and have already been working hard to improve and plan on playing online for a long time. |
