Re: outfit and action
[ QUOTE ]
The only fashion article I've ever seen make an immediate impression on a table is a name tag from a conference. I think that only works in Vegas though. [/ QUOTE ] I proudly wore my stupid Company-shirt + nametag to the tables during a conference there. Sat at 2/5NL, quietly asked the local next to me a dumb question ("can I raise as much as I want?"), saw him wink to friend in seat 5, and went on to kick @ss. I couldnt resist winking to him 3 hours later. |

Re: outfit and action
The strategy is to look conservative, but play loose and aggressively. Yes, it works very well.

Re: outfit and action
Though the preppy rapist look works pretty well, I prefer the union dockworker look - very short hair, lots of Carhartt, plus I can be surly if I feel like it. Nobody ever pegs the working man as a player, right?
I have a question. Why on earth does anyone wear a Full Tilt jersey, or any other online gear for that matter, to the cardroom? How is that possibly good for the game? Or, is it that fun looking like a douche? |

Re: outfit and action
I just love looking out over a floor of 12 $100 NLHE tables and seeing 1/2 the players in hoodies, shades and earpieces. Makes me want to scream: 'Sup Bro!

Re: outfit and action
haha thats awsome!
ive done stuff like that at 1/2NL and told them that i never played much no limit before and said i learned from watching TV pros and that its EZ. i made alot of donk bets in the beginning so everyone realy thought i was horrible and then i TAG'd up, so to speak, and ended up with around $1,200 in front of me. 2 of the guys who were "helping me" got pissed and left and yelled at me for lying. They didnt even give me real advice when iasked them basic questions like how much should i raise on the flop usualy? and one onf them responded "thats the beautiful thing about no-limit, u cna and should bet whatever u feel like" haha i feel good takin that guys money |

Re: outfit and action
Of course how you dress affects people's initial impression of you. If it didn't I would have gone to job interviews in sweats and a t-shirt. If I see someone come to the table dressed in running pants and a t-shirt I suspect right away that he might either be a pro or at least play a lot of poker, or perhaps they don't have much money so they may play tightly. Also if someone handles the cheques like a dealer that's a giveaway too. However, it probably depends on what stakes you play since most people really aren't that observant.
If you come to the table in a suit, w/ a lots of jewelry and flash around a wad of cash people are going to think you're ready to gamble. It's hard for people to change their first impressions, but if you're dressed like a saudi prince and still haven't played a hand after an hour even the biggest idiot will figure out right away that you're no action (except at the lower levels where your raise will still get 7 callers!) |
