standard is to get three rows of red ($5) chips - the dealers will make change for you

if you are at a local cardroom where the dealers don't carry so many singles you might get $290 in red and $10 in white, they usually guide you at the chip window

balla: three hundred in green ($25), you can change out 4 for red from another player when you sit down at the table and play from there.

At the Borgata, the poker room cage will only sell complete, 20-chip stacks of any color. So, you can buy $200 or $300 in red, but not $280. My usual solution for 1-2 NL ($300 max buy) is to buy $200 red and $100 white, which gives me a lot more white than most players on the table. Other options are to enter with $300 red and get change from the dealer; or buy $300 red, $20 white, and pocket 4 red chips.

Apparently the Borg has decided that having the cage operate faster is worth requiring the dealers to make a bit more change.

i know where talking about chips. but i was wondering isnt it negative ev to play 1/2 with a 10$ an hour rake. and on a side not if you are a solid winning player is it better to play 300 buy in or 100(1/2 blinds) i was just thinking it might be a easier to stack people off more often with just 50bbs

When in doubt, ask. The chip runners know what to bring. And the cage people know (or can look it up on their little cheat sheet--rooms that spread more than a couple games give the cage people cheat sheets to let 'em know whether the standard chips for the game are $1, $2, $3, $5, $10, or $25).

I usually go for 3 stacks of Red and just let the dealer make change for blinds. Even given how slow the dealers are, they are MUCH faster than the cage.

I asked for 180 red, 20 white and 100 green once and it was like I was from Mars. And all that counting and recounting and lining the chips up. I know they have procedures, but seriously, why is it every time I go it seems that the person I get has never handled chips? Do they have that much of a problem retaining people?

Dont forget to get some blacks and stuff them in your pocket for rebuys, its always fun to buy a stack of red back off the person you dumped it off to.

That freaking cage better move fast, given that there are usually only two people working there, and everybody who's sitting down at the table has to get chips from the cage. Does it really kill the game to have the dealer give $300 in chips to a player about once every half an hour or so?

How many chips are in the racks where you play? I don't think they have more than $600 anywhere around here, they've got runners. If the game is time raked, I'd prefer the dealer not spend a lot of time jacking around with fills and player's checks.
