Does your analysis of Garmin include who the major car manufacturers are using to add GPS to their cars? Does Garmin have any deals with them? I think in the long run, you'll see fewer GPSs for sale as individual units and more built right in to the cars. All other markets, boating, hiking, I would guess are more of a niche market in comparison to the huge volume of car GPSs.

They actually do have deals with car manufacturers. Most recently, they signed deals with Hyundai, BMW, and DaimlerChrysler, as well as with Avis.
I feel that you are correct to an extent when you suggest that their growth will slow once everyone who wants a GPS will have bought one already. However, their marine and aviation segment is in its very young stage. Also, they are aggressively expanding personal devices with their acquisitions, like including medical monitoring in their new athletic devices, etc. Thoughts? |
