I've heard so many different reviews on this book, I just don't know if I'm going to get it. People either love it or hate it. There doesn't seem to be much in between.

That's funny because it is in between (I gave it a 7 on ITH.) It gets a bad rap (partly by people who haven't bothered to read it, of course) for some debatable advice (even according to him) about a "crazy" play he made with 82s. But it's all part of his philosophy for LLNL cash. Another problem with critics of the book is that they take the advice and the title of the book at face value - "NL Holdem - A Complete Course". It is by no means a complete course. His advice is strictly for low max buyin, low limit, NL cash games (i.e. populare casino style such as $1/2/$200). For that the advice is pretty good. Part of the reason it's recommended is because there's nothing else out there, at least for these games.

This book is terrible. 15 minutes reading posts in SSNL is an infinitely more valuable use of time.

Honestly, this book is the type that will probably do more harm to your game than good.

I think I may just hold out for Professional No Limit Hold'em and the Harrington Cash Game Series...

i think it's alot better than that... but he does talk about straddling every time he's UTG in certain games. and i thought this was buy-in constrained (maybe very constrained) in which your implied odds aren't as good. in a deep enough game, you can pretty much play anything unraised, but that's very deep not buy=in constrained.

... one problem is that he seems to play a crazy read-intensive game, which is hard to articulate in a book... feel free to correct/argue about this. doing it from memory??

i thought it was a decent read though, and if you think you're a decent player, you should be able to filter these books.

That's the problem, his audience isn't one that's able to properly filter information.
