OP, look into an old world wine, preferrably a Brunello or BOrdeaux as those age the best. Though it won't be this year exactly, you should right now try to purchase a case of some bordeaux futures for the 05 vintage. It all depends really on how much you are willing to spend on a bottle or case. Though it's a new world wine, the 05 Amon-Ra Shiraz from australia has great aging potential and runs around 75 a bottle

If you want to put some real numbers to the ups and downs of wine futures, this is a great article.
How does your cellar grow? The vast difference between 1981 and 1982 is interesting, as well as the fact that the futures game has changed tremendously over the years. The producers are leaving a lot less on the table at the start, as anyone who has looked into 2005 futures will know. One other great thing on the site is the Fine Wine Tracker. You can see the prices of 2500 wines from release to current auction price. Pretty nice tool for just registering. |
