I think a lot of the scratch games are packaged and sold to the states that want them. Like ad agencies that "boiler plate" a media package for small markets.
WSOP did a deal to let their name/logo be used by the corp that put together the promotion. I've seen contests for promo ideas run by the Texas Lottery Comm. They take the winning theme and get the ticket printers to put it together for them. |

I saw those advertisements on television for that WSOP lottery game. The funny thing about this lottery prize is Eight seats are available for the WSOP main event. They pay for $10k buy in, they provide airfare for two, 6 night, 7 day stay at a hotel, pay any taxes on the prize, transportation cost, $1000 spending cash..and two tickets to attend the WSOP final table event. At least the people who came up with the prize package weren't delusional...they make no assumptions that you might be in the final table event yourself.

Except there's a problem with that because the main-event is 2 weeks long this year.
So they pay for your $10k buy-in. And you get two tickets to attend the WSOP final-table (I guess they are 'tickets' now??). So in order to play in your day 1 AND to use your tickets for the final-table you will need more than 7 days and 6 nights there (or you will need to go home and come back...but I don't think they would include that in the transportation cost). |

If the main event is 2 weeks long, I think the lottery officials may be in for an added cost they didn't expect. I don't think they can leave 8 lottery winners in Vegas with no where to stay during the second week of their prize. When this idea got the "ok", it may have been only a 1 week planned event. They might have to modify the prize slightly, wouldn't you think?

They had what I assume was the same game in VA a year or so ago... another state with NO casinos of any form. I thought the same thing at the time.
We also have a WPT Hold'Em game. |

they have this game in michigan too. a buddy at my home game bought a tivket, and on 4 out of five hands he won like 3 bucks. on the fifth, the card had 22, and he had AKh. flop 2sJhTh. at this point he scratches the prize, and its $10,000. turn blank. river is a heart, he goes nuts, then he realizes its the 2 of hearts. should've folded preflop.

this is amusing.
I suspect MANY people have difficulty reading the freaking board and have difficulty figuring out if they won. I can just imagine somebody insisting to some conveninece-store clerk that they really are owed $5 or whatever. |

What is even more weird is the aggressive stance the Nashville police has taken regarding poker the past 12 months. Since February of last year, there have been three games busted by the police, one was a 5-10 limit game that was characterized by the media as a "high stakes" poker game. Another was a weekly tournament held by a VFW Hall.
Just another way the man is keeping us Tennesseans down. Play the lottery, lose your money. Play poker, go to jail. Just no damn way to win around here. |
