What can you tell me about juggling that I can't find here?

[/ QUOTE ]

Another thing that I thought of that you probably won't find by searching for "juggling"...

In my experience, most jugglers are very intelligent. Almost everyone I juggle with were either engineers, scientists, math teachers, or at least very analytical thinking. That's why I think I like juggling and poker so much.

So whats a big issue in the rapidly changing climate of the juggling world?

[/ QUOTE ]

Let's see... In recent years the topic of art versus sport has been pretty big.

Juggling purists think of juggling as more of an art, where originality and entertainment matter most. Within the last few years there has been a big push by some to consider juggling more of a sport or competition.

Jason Garfield started the WJF (World Juggling Federation) to air juggling competitions on ESPN, where very skilled contested were judged on a specific scoring system (like gymnastics or diving).

Most purists don't like this movement, but I for one would love to see juggling progress to something like an Olympic sport. I still love seeing great, creative juggling too though.

Do you think Garfield or Gatto is technically better?

How many pins can you sustain?

And, I can juggle 4 balls ok, but the move to 5 is extremely difficult, any tips?

Anthony Gatto is by far the best technical juggler in the world. He won't compete though in competition, but just his Vegas act alone has more advanced juggling than what you'd see in the WJF.

Second to Gatto, I like Thomas Dietz (of Germany). He's an incredible juggler, and he's got a very good personality.

Jason Garfield is just a plain a-hole. He's very good, but he's not the best (except in his own mind.)

Personally, I can only qualify 4 clubs, but I'm working on 5 right now. I can get about 8 catches of the 5-club cascade.

5 is a very big leap from 4. It took me a year's worth of practicing every day (about 20 minutes/day) before I could run 5 solidly.

Suggestions:

Use beanbags (instead of balls). They're easier to catch and they don't roll around when you drop them.

Practice a 3-ball flash while clapping your hands underneath all three balls.

Practice the siteswap pattern 5551 with four balls. This is the 5551 pattern:

Lastly, when you get ready to try 5, throw all five balls, but don't catch any of them. They should land at your feet, with a pile of 3 on one side and a pile of 2 on the other. Listen to the timing of them hitting the floor, they should be equally spaced intervals.

I learned 3 when I was a kid (about 12 years old). I didn't learn 5 until I was about 28. Once I decided to start learning 5, it took me a year of practicing (mentioned above).

How much practice would it take for your average semi-coordinated schmuck to go from no juggling ability to a decent but not good 3 ball juggle?

Can you do 3 balls in one hand?

I can do 4 balls but only doing the 2 in each hand individually way. What are some other patterns I should try?
