[ QUOTE ] Anyone suprised? [/ QUOTE ] I am, I thought he'd take them this time. [/ QUOTE ] I don't really get this, for those better informed: who on earth has he been playing for practice? You don't just get better than the best in the world by "thinking about it really hard" |

...who on earth has he been playing for practice? [/ QUOTE ] The "Big Game" played in Vegas is not the only big game. Back in the day, Dallas, Galveston, Corpus Christi and occasionally Houston, were where the action/money was. Binion's idea for the HE Championship got the attention/publicity focused on Vegas. But, big games go on whenever/wherever gamblers want. Sort of, "Shuffle and they will come. If the money's right." |

You don't just get better than the best in the world by "thinking about it really hard" [/ QUOTE ] Beal is one of the best Heads Up Limit Players in the World. While I have no idea who he practices against, when you devote yourself to one scenerio of one poker game like he has, it is possible to become really really great. Plus, think of all the variance there is in a game like this, even if it he isn't as good as people say, he's going to win his share. |

I didn't know Beal was invited to the NUPC. I would have liked to see how far he got.

According to the book he would played experienced pros at his home office. Johnny Chan, Gabe Kaplan were two that I remembered from the book, not sure who else. Its sad he's not playing in this event, even though he doesn't play no limit, you'd think Andy would be very competitive with a little NL practice.

The weird thing is that he had already replied to an invitational only event. The NBC executives are all in Italy watching the Olympics so poor Steve Griffith, NBC PR, has to figure out what to do. I heard he called Mori Escandadi right away. I'm sure they have alternates on their list of 64 players, but still... what a pain. What the article doesn't tell you is how the Corporation responded to it!
