Moving the kickoff spot back to the 30 yard line is going to have a MUCH bigger effect than these people realize.

[/ QUOTE ]

QFT. NFL kickers have a hard enough time with it.

If they want to speed up the games without screwing over the teams at the end of halves, why not run the clock, even on incomplete passes or out of bounds plays, until there are 5 minutes left in each half?

I have not thought this through and just throw it out there.

Don't they still use a higher tee in college, or has that changed recently as well? Obviously, moving it back to the 30 is going to make things tough, but not quite as tough as it is for pros.

NFL uses the K-Ball, too, which makes it harder to kick far

JoA (and All),

How much will the average starting field position change if they move the kickoff spot back 5 yards? I'm thinking 8-10 yards.

Moving the kickoff back is a horrible idea. The rest I don't mind.

Yes, instead of the ball going out the back of the endzone, it will now be fielded 8 yards deep.

If anything, this will merely punish the smaller/less prestigious schools who don't have the special teams of those in the top half of teams in the best conferences.

You know that these rules effect 4 levels of college football right? D3-D1AA programs do not want this change. The clock rule was a horrendous adjustment at these levels. I hate the new rules with a passion and will hate them even more if they move the kickoff back. It takes away from our games.

I can only hope the proposed idea to change the clock back works and that this kickoff rule is not put into effect.

Edit to add: The 15 second idea is fine with me, as is the 30 second timeout. The replay rule works for D1-A as well as it won't effect the lower groups of college football, except of course the handful games that do get televised..

I think you should look up touchback percentages....they are not nearly as high as you think

Please, by all means, if you know of a site that has these numbers, feel free to share.

I was also being a bit facetious in my first post, but it's hard to disagree that this will only help the better teams get better.

I dislike changing the rules in the middle of the game. I would suggest that if they want to speed up the games, they should shorten the lenght of the quarters.
