yes, that's obviously right.
but there's this little thing called the U.S. government who have no decided they really don't like online-poker. The WSOP doesn't want to get into trouble. Obviously they would love to have as many entrants as they can get. But they would like to do so without someone breathing down their necks that they are somehow sponsoring or helping those evil internet-poker sites. |

that's for 2008.
And I suspect they could change this up if they really had to. The deal is that you get to pick 2 out of the 3 with the 3 being: WSOP ME, PCA in Bahamas, Monte Carlo. So they could just make it 2 out of 2 and say, "sorry, too bad. Isn't our fault the WSOP won't let us buy you in." Party promised an awesome deal for those who qualifier via the long Monster thingee including different trips all over the place. Then they pulled the whole thing after they left the U.S. market. Stars is hardly 'committed' to the WSOP thing for SN Elites just because they said it was one of the prizes. |

I believe the WSOP people are putting together a "rights" package. Anyone can hand, tourney, lottery "tickets" to the "big game," but if you advertise tickets to the World Series, Super Bowl, etc you have to pay for the advertising rights.
Here in Tucson, AZ a number of people have received letter from the legal staff of the University of Arizona for giving away tickets to the UofA football and basketball games. Now everyone gives away tickets to "Saturday's Big Game", etc. Yep, the WSOP are money grubbing whores like everyone else. --------kitty |

Harrah's would probably be pleased if a lack of online qualifiers got more people into their land-based circuit events.
Suspect they would like to pocket as many qualifying tournament fees as possible. |

The recent law change shouldn't affect them running satellites for canada/europe citizens though. Would it? I was hoping on playing a couple this year On a side note, looks like the WSOP this year isn't an all hold em thing like last year. There's more holdem obviously than other games but it looks like there's a great selection of every game being spread out this year. From PL Omaha hi lo w/ rebuys to SHOE, 5K HORSE, omaha hi/lo and stud hi/lo combo tourney etc.

Hi folks -
Our customer service rep was a bit confused. We are definitely running satellites to the WSOP for all our customers, [1] and we plan to get them started before the end of this month. Start hoarding your W$, the season is about to open. Best regards, Lee Jones PokerStars Poker Room Manager [1] "What's a WSOP without PokerStars satellites?" |
