Let's take this one step further than just the +EV argument (though I completely agree). Let's assume that you sit out on everything except AA, KK and maybe QQ. We can all figure out the odds of these hands occuring, so I am not going to go into it. As the tourny progresses, other players are going to consolidate chips as some players are knocked out. In the mean time, depending on the speed of the tourney, the author may lose at least 1 BB and 1 SB per level. This will significantly cut into his stack relatively quickly. This is the text book "being eaten alive by the blinds." Put the 2 together, plus the potential "big hand" for the opponents and all of a sudden the likelihood of bubbling out becomes a real possibility. I am a believer in playing the game to win and sitting out is in no way going to achieve that goal on anywhere near a regular basis.

Use the big stack to beat the snot out of your opponents, play position poker, seek out weakness....in short maximize your potential to win.

i don't see how sitting out is considered cheating. Surely the only person being cheated is the person who chose to sit out?

Here's an interesting alternative. Assume you can only play 4 SnG's or you become unprofitable. If you triple up early, should you sit out and open up a new one? Is the EV you give up in one lesser than your expected +EV in the other SnG? What would you do?

I guess this guy makes most money, playing against his students
I mean, this homepage should be published in total asia, so sng`s get more juicy. What about if we all support this guy?
lol

One thing I really like to do is to search Usenet for SNG strategy posts that are retarded, but make some sense when you're first learning about poker. Example: raising 3x when you have less than 10xBB and then possibly folding. My absolute favorite though is "play to win".

In this one Usenet post they're talking about some hand and a guy chimes in "you need to [call/raise], you can't be afraid to bubble out. All together now - proper SNG strategy is to play for the win."
