quids: BevMo! Old Grand Dad Straight (750 ML)
Price: $11.99 (the 100 proof is $19, maybe that's what I had in college...)

Wookie: BevMo! W.L. Weller Reserve Bourbon (750 ML)
Price: $14.99

ed: I thought Old Overholt was horrible!

All: I'm surprised nobody mentioned Jim Beam. That is a solid $12-13 bourbon.

All: The WL Weller is good stuff, so now let's progressively hit like $20, $25, $30, $40, $50, $65, $100..... Just your favorites, slowly moving up in price.

Here in Kentucky all our college frat parties were stocked with Kentucky Tavern, or Kentucky Gentleman. KT was considered the more classy bourbon.

Evan Williams is solid for the price and better than Jack or Jim. I drank gallons of the stuff in college.

I think that Four Roses would have to be included in your cheap whiskies that do the job. The Australian version is Cougar Whiskey which is just horrible stuff.

Thanks.

10/suzzer,
Yeah, I guess Yukon Jack is technically a whiskey, huh? That stuff is so sweet (literally, not figuratively) from all the honey, it's hard to think of it as one. That was my roommate's and my standby beverage for sophomore year of college; I remember skipping class and buying a bottle specifically to toast O.J.'s conviction...bah. It's the black sheep of Canadian liquors..."Yukon Jack is a taste born of hoary nights, when lonely men struggled to keep their fires lit and cabins warm.” Love that label, haha.

Let's see, where are we at? El D already said Jim Beam, which is by far my favorite "cheap" whiskey. For a slight step up in price, you can get ahold of Jim Beam Black. I think it's about $17-$18 a bottle at my local liqor stores. It's really no better than regular Jim, IMO, but it is a little different and has more of a kick. It really attacks the senses, so it is definitely best enjoyed neat (I usually prefer my regular Jim on ice though).
