Re: OOT - help me sleep soundly
I have been taking Ambien for years as well, since I have recurring chronic insomnia. However, I am one of the people that genuinely hates taking it, despite all the "cool" side effects people get from it.
Here's what happens to me the majority of the time I take it: Pros: 1) I pass out and sleep very well. Cons: 1) I black out. I can't remember what I have done 2 hours before I fell asleep. As a result, when I wake up, I am startled and think "Where am I?" 2) Ambien has given me ridiculous nightmares / sleep terrors. 3) It causes severe short-term memory loss (see #1), up to 24 hours prior to waking up. I need to be reminded on what you did, and even then, thoughts can be foggy. 4) Any latent emotions I am suppressing (anger, sadness, etc) come out when on the medication. I can't control what I say or what I do, and worst of all, I don't remember doing any of it. This is coming from a guy who can hold his alcohol like something serious - I never black out from drinking, and never do [censored] that I wouldn't do normally when drinking. Ambien is a last resort drug for me. The side effects for me are legitimately scary. |

[ QUOTE ] ZMA will deepen your sleep. [/ QUOTE ] I just read up on that. Does it really help noticeably with working out as well? Any drawbacks? [/ QUOTE ] No drawbacks. Worked for me. Better sleep = better recovery. I forgot to order some recently and am pretty pissed. |

[ QUOTE ]
Unisom and melatonin puts me out for 10 hours. The stuff in Nyquil makes me drowsy the next day, Dextromethorphan or whatever. [/ QUOTE ] If you are going to go the benedryl route, don't buy Unisom. Go to walmart, and grab their "Equate" version of unisom 50mg gel caps for 1/3 the price. 32 for 3 bucks. |

Re: OOT - help me sleep soundly
Like Thremp said, ZMA will help. So will GABA.
Get a consistent pre-sleep routine. Make sure your room is completely dark. Also, adjust the temperature so it's warm. |

Re: OOT - help me sleep soundly
Maybe just because I had to go through it but I wouldn't want to take ambien unless there's somebody else there until you know how you'll react.
My wife would take it then sit up in bed after an hour or so, start talking to nobody, turn the gas burners of the stove on and walk away, all kinds of [censored]. Turns out some ppl take it then while their conscious mind is asleep their body wakes up with their unconscious mind in charge. Spooky |
