In my case, I called to see his cards, and was still told I had to turn the other card over.

In order to lay claim to the pot, you must show both cards.

That's fine with me, I just have never seen this rule enforced before my trip this weekend. I have shown only one card several times in the past and won the pot.

Sounds like you have never layed cards before in a casino. I've never seen this rule not enforced, its always the rule everywhere in the US I have traveled - and I've been to most major card rooms.

At showdown with another opponent you must always show two cards to be awarded the pot - no exceptions.

There is a very common situation where this isn't an issue. You show one card and your opponents all muck, then it doesn't matter that you only showed one card because you are the only one with a hand. Otherwise everywhere I have played requires you show two at showdown to get the pot

This is probably what happened.

This weekend in a tournament, I had a player at my table attempt to only show his ace (which paired the ace on board) to claim a pot.

Me: You know that when you don't show the other card, we all basically know what your kicker is.

(the expected offsuit deuce quickly flipped over)

Is this new and exclusive to AC?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, it's neither.

I have been playing poker there for 3 or 4 years, and I have never seen that before. I have shown one card many times and won the pot.

I don't know how to explain that -- it's a very standard rule. Maybe you've been playing where dealers are poorly trained, or maybe your opponents didn't make a big deal about it.

You can't win at showdown without showing a complete hand unless you're the last live hand. One card is not a complete hold'em hand. Period.

In the OP, I think the best interest of the game indicates that the floor should do everything possible to award the hand to the quads. OTOH, it really drives me crazy when people try to get away without showing a hand, so the floor should do everything possible to show the complete hand. If that's no longer possible, the pot has to be awarded to the best hand shown, a full house.

The only tough part about this ruling is reconciling it with that dead guy thread where I pretty adamantly argued for a BIotG exception. But I think this ruling is much more consistent with the original intent of the "show a complete hand" rule. I still think it's good if the original card can be identified in the muck, though.

Hopefully losing the pot will cure the quads of this habit of trying to cheat people out of information.

I don't understand why so many people get cute with a winning hand. If I think I have a winner, I turn it over. Hell, it is good business to turn over a [censored] starting hand that luckboxes into a winner sometimes.

Takes two cards to win the hand!

Board has 777KA
Player 1 has Kings full.
Player two has the 4th 7.

Showdown. Kings are shown. Player two mucks his hand.

Dealer shoves the $80 pot to the Kings full. HUGE verbal battle ensues. Subsequently player 2 is asked to leave!

[/ QUOTE ]

FYP -- result is standard.

Having to show both cards is standard in most card rooms. I also thought it was standard that all five board cards had to be dealt in holdem. But 3 years ago at the Bellagio this occured. I had AA, raised preflop and got one caller. The flop was A 9 3 rainbow. I bet and the other guy raised me all-in and I called.

We both flipped our cards up and he had A9. The dealer, burned and turned a blank and then stopped dealing and attempted to push me the pot.

A guy, who was not in the hand and was a know it all type and claimed he was a dealer at the Commerce Casino got really pissed and told the dealer he "had" to deal the River. The dealer told him that when he's dealing he can deal the River when the guy has not outs but when he's dealing the hand was over.

The guy kept ranting and the dealer picked up the deck and said "pick any card you want out of the deck and that will be our River". The guy kept grumbling but a River was never dealt.

I kind of liked all the bickering. Added a little spice to my double through.
