Ya i don't get that either. What did he ever do to all of you.

[/ QUOTE ]

Some people here don't like that he was arrested and pled guilty to inapporpiately [sic] touching a minor. Which was his granddaughter.

From what I read, though he plead guilty to a lesser charge he still adimently (sp?) denied it, but wanted to get it over with.

Side story of amarillo.
I seen him at a jewerly store in vegas with a few of my buddies who were drunk at the time. One of my buddies said 'hey look its amarillo, yea wsop.' Another friend who knows nothing about poker says 'who is he' first friends says 'he won the world series'
I said 'yea there was like 30 people in it' everyone in the jewerly store started giggling. Slim was not impressed tho.

Wonder if the Nicholas Cage movie will mention the granddaughter thing or not. If not he could be a poker legend again. Certainly an interesting character.

But to paraphrase someone, maybe Doyle, "Never before and never again could one person make so much out of winning one 9 person tournament."

Poker star tied up and robbed with his own shotguns

Famed gambler robbed in Amarillo home
Associated Press

AMARILLO, Texas — Famed poker player "Amarillo Slim" was not injured when two armed men tied him up in his home and robbed him, police said.

Thomas Austin "Amarillo Slim" Preston Jr. 78, had been out, but found the men in his house when he returned Sunday night.

The robbers had two of his shotguns and took them as they fled, according to Preston.

No arrests have been made.

Doyle is wrong. Amarillo Slim didn't get his fame and become a legend for winning the wsop way back when, he got his fame for being one of the greatest if not the greatest hustler of all time.
