AVG is not going anywhere. They are ending support for the free version of 7.1

All this means is that you need to download the newer free version of 7.5

This will sound silly....but what are the Adaware and Spybot wesites....

I don't want to google them and then find they are incorrect pages and download anything dangerous ?

I always get them from download.com. As far as I know that site is okay.

Adaware and Spybot ore just ok, but AVG kicks ass on both. It removed things that Sbybot and Adaware didn't even see.

Go to www.download.com

TOP right search: "Lavasoft adaware" -> download

and

"Spybot Search and Destroy" -> download

run updates regularly

This is true... I also use SpyBot and AdAware, but noticed as I was updating my parents' laptop before they go to Florida for the winter that the new AVG also has a spyware component that you can download, so I'm using that in tandem with everything else (ZoneAlarm, AVG Anti-Virus, SpyBot and AdAware). It's all free so what the hell? No excuses people.

I followed these instructions and downloaded t his program, and it wants me to buy it $20, before it can be used.

So instead, I'm downloading AVG 7.5 right now and will try it out.

Both spybot and adaware (personal) are free -- I'm guessing you tried to DL another version of adaware.
