[ QUOTE ] I have a feeling this won't fly but bleh. Always interesting in picking up good new books. Basically I read everything and usually multiple at a time, dunno why I just do. Currently reading: - Open Society and its Enemies (good) - Atlas Shrugged (overrated but still ok) - Neuromancer (decent but not the instaclassic I expected) [/ QUOTE ] Neuromancer is one of those books that will not wear as well as it ages. The present has caught up to what could only be imagined when Gibson wrote it. It is like reading a sci-fi book based on space travel written in the fifties. I read it shortly after it was written and much of what he imagined was completely new at that time. [/ QUOTE ] Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon FTW |

Yeah Proust has a wicked style.
dmk, your job sounds like fun :P Job related books I've read recently include (some not really cover to cover material): Crossing the Chasm, Inside the Tornado, Principles of Marketing - yay for marketing Programming Python, Rails Book and Pickaxe Book and loads of other programming and admin related stuff - yay for coding Interestingly enough I just realized that it's been more than a year since I read a German book |

I could never get into the Discworld books. I was absolutely convinced I should like them. It got to the point that I read about five in the series before I gave up. I just found that the jokes and puns were laid on so thick that I couldn't find room to care about the characters. If the jokes were just a bit funnier it wouldn't have mattered.

I really liked the ones with Rincewind and with the Night Watch. Granny not so much. I read about 15 of them in a month and haven't had a desire since.

Also, there are entire websites dedicated to interpreting the very british humor and references in Pratchett which is entirely too much work when you're looking for guffaws.
It seems like db would probably have some kind of conniption reading them though. |
