You people got it all upside down, the REAL question should be; Why the [censored] didn't you ask for her phone number !?

Anyway, I'd instantly give it back, it gets more interesting when the bank accidentally slips up and adds 6 zero's to your bank account...(I would probably still report it, even if I was sure I couldn't get caught )

1. Do you think most americans take the money and run or give it back?
2. Which one are you?

1. I think a very high percentage would give it back
2. I'm not american but I would always give it back.

I did the following in poker and it has stuck in my mind.
I was heads-up in a £5 Sng. We had roughly equal stacks and had played about 4 hands when the opponent disconnected. I won the next by default and before I could stop myself I raised the next and won. I then started to regret my actions and hit the time-bank button for the next 2 hands. He then reconnected - to this day I regret not automatically folding the next three hands to equalise up for his misfortune. I suppose I could have cleaned him out within that time but I still feel a pang of remorse especially as I did win the SnG.

I agree. I mean for me, theres not even a thought to it. It's not my money...and its easily returnable to the person it does belong to. I'm kinda shocked by the answers in this thread. Good wake up call for me. I'm aware that the people I play poker with are a-holes. I guess I gotta keep an eye out for cheating and angle shooting too.

It seems as though everyone here has missed an obvious point of what should be done.

Run to the car, give it back, be a gentleman, start up a conversation, and ask her out.

Simple karma really.

Or, failing that, she prolly has some single friends!

As a poker player your first instict should be to want to keep it, no? Then you start realizing the implications behind your decision and have second thoughts. At same time, what makes this much different from online poker? Just because someone is behind a monitor I do not feel guilty for exploiting there mistake(s)?...

[/ QUOTE ]

wow, i don't understand this thinking at all.

i think keeping the delivery girl's money would be more comparable to grabbing a person's chips when he/she isn't looking than to winning his/her chips legitimately in poker.

to me, the difference is that keeping the delivery girl's money/grabbing chips are morally wrong, whereas winning money in poker is not.

yes, you are "exploiting mistakes" in all three examples, but there are times when it's acceptable to exploit people's mistakes, and there are times when it's not. when someone buys in to a cash game, he/she is essentially challenging the rest of the players to exploit his/her mistakes.

in the delivery girl's case, though, there was no implied challenge.

Apologies freelancer, you got it right.

My problem is two fold.

Firstly, i tennd to skim and not read all the posts

Secondly, the brain tends to often freeze in situations that we have discussed!

Oh hell no. As a successful poker player $20 means jack [censored] to me but I know it does to others and I insta return it in a situation like this.
