Time to blast your CDs really loudly. And sing along.

Re: Is this rude?
I do it too but its Rude, When I get in a car I am not driving I almost always fall asleep, I can't help it sometimes. I don't want to be rude but it winds up that way sometimes.
Just tell him you get lonely when you drive, very lonely and start reaching for his jock, he will never go to sleep again. |

Re: Is this rude?
Meh. Unless the guy's like really witty and we can talk about a lot of cool stuff, I'd just as soon let him sleep while I drive. Worse would be he justs keeps talking about crap that doesn't interest me in the least.

Re: Is this rude?
BB,
It is kinda rude, I guess, but also hilarious. I'd rather listen to music than talk to most people anyway, so I wouldn't care. |

Re: Is this rude?
I don't think 'rude' is the appropriate word here. It's more like 'inconsiderate'. It's not like the coworker decided to just get up in the morning and say 'I don't think I'm rude enough, I'm gonna be extra rude to my boss today' But it's more like him thinking along the lines of expecting to spend the time to accomodate his own selfish motives (in this case, sleep), while not caring a thing about the fact that his boss might appreciate some company during what is in fact a long, boring and tedious drive.
Some people are just oblivious to the context of certain situations, add the fact that this person probably thinks primarily about himself more than others, and you get exibited behavior which appears on the surface to be 'rude'. But really he is just inconsiderate and insensitive. My suggestion to you is to buy a pair of industrial strength ear plugs, wait until he goes to sleep, and then bump your music to the point where you can't even hear emergency vehicles. Don't get mad, get even. |

You must not be interesting enough.
Work on your conversation skills and try again. |

Re: Is this rude?
OP,
I'd say that you've built an expectation for "road trips" that not everyone shares. Maybe this guy doesn't really see driving somewhere with you as a bonding experience on par with driving with your college buddies to spring break, and he'd rather sleep - or pretend to sleep - than hold conversation with his boss. EDIT: how do you feel about conversation in elevators? |

Re: Is this rude?
WTF? not rude at all.
why do you usually end up driving? Just make him drive his share, and mind your own business when he's trying to take a nap. you're probably boring. I have a buddy that I take foxwoods trips with every once in a while, he always drives (I have no car), I give him gas $$, and I sleep almost every trip. am I rude? |
