Most of the credit-card companies decided to prohibit such transactions long before the legislation was even enacted.

I think that some banks were doing some of this kind of stuff on their own before the legislation as well.

Ehh..that sounds a little out there. I have never heard(doesn't mean it hasn't happened) of a poker site check not clearing. I don't recall there being ANYTHING tracing these checks to gambling related activies.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree that this check thing seems weird.
Poker-sites can set up at any number of banks to send you the payment and it's not like they're going to know you got it from an online-gambling site.

I wasn't arguing that though. I was arguing your assertion that the banks wouldn't possibly do anything before any regulations are enacted. Some already have been irt electronic-transfers and check-cards.

My check-card from my bank worked fine on pokerstars when I first started playing. Later, the bank decided not to allow it for such transactions.

Do you have any concept of how many checks are processed every day?

[/ QUOTE ]

HSB, do you have any idea how many SARs are filled out on checks every day? Sure they may not be able to immediately identify it's origin, but once they do do you think they just forget, or might they make note of it (via a "watch list") so they can easily identify it immediately next time?

[ QUOTE ]
It would be a monumental task to review all paper checks to see if they come from a gambling company. Monumental.

[/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately this monumental work load can easily be reduced dramatically by simply limiting it to international transactions.

The phone number obv got cut off while copying n pasting. And the "p0ker" is likely do to a nsfw filter of the private forum OP stated he got the info from.

Listen, you can speculate all you want, or you can e-mail BoDog and get confirmation for yourself like I did. This is unfortunately very true.

Now for the third time- can anyone confirm that BoDog has *not* been using a third party to cut checks all this time??

Paper checks, which you are asking about specifically, are not being honored by the banks when they are cashed.

[/ QUOTE ]
This is NOT new. Many banks refuse to flat out CASH checks from out of state banks let alone out of country banks. Depositing the check, with a 5-7 day holding period before being able to use the funds, is very normal.

Ross,

One more thing. Are there any issues with Americans cashing paper
checks? I have always thought this was a method of funds transfer that
would not go away, but I hear that a check from BoDog is not cashable in
the US. It obviously made me wonder if the same is true for FTP as I
play here exclusively.

Hello Ryan,

Thank you for concern.

Currently, there is no conflict with issuing American residents with a
check. However, if this happens to be an issue in the future, rest
assured there will be enough information in advance for customers to
adjust.

Thanks again Ryan, and if there's anything else we can help you with,
please let us know.

Regards,

Ross

it sounds like the no-check policy bodog did on it's own some time ago. As far as I know people have been cashing stars and FTP checks with no problem. This only means no one has come up on the boards saying "ZOMG I can't cash my stars check anymore!!!" I'm pretty positive we would have heard this by now. Who has recently cashed stars and ftp checks?

Dude, my checks from around the block typically don't clear right away, but this has nothing to do w/ what BoDog is stating.

What's more likely -- that every bank in the US has stopped accepting poker site withdrawal checks (when UIGEA doesn't even attempt to apply to withdrawals) and we're only getting reports of it from Bodog, or that Bodog checks are being returned NSF?

I would guess whatever their intermediate bank is has frozen their account. That's no good for those of us with $ in Bodog, but not nearly as painful as some sort of widespread check-denying conspiracy fantastically timed to coincide with the Neteller arrests.
