I did move down to $25 near the end of the swing to keep my $$$ loss within reason.

You really think that "swings" have a starting point and they end at some point? Like you could switch to play money tables when you have one of these "swings" and then when it ends come back to real money?

I think when you're on a 20 buy-in downswing you can't just blame varience but you probebly have some MAJOR leaks in your game as well. The biggest downswing I had (+/- 12 when I was still playing 10NL) was like 30% bad varience (getting sucked out on etc) 30% tilt and 40% bad plays on my account. Try to review your sessions and see if you can spot the leaks or even better get someone else to look at them. When I go through a rough period I get a friend of mine to review some of my key hands (he plays 200NL) and he pinpoints some of the big mistakes I make with ease.

When you think you're starting to play bad, take a break.. do something else. Take a smoke, drink some coffee, watch a movie, spank the monkey whatever.. Just try to be fresh and alert when you start playing again.

It just seems for me I run either white hot or ice cold. WheN I run super bad for a while I move down. I am sure there are a number of factors which influence my play and produces the resulting swings and not some big random swing that comes along liek a taxi if thats what you mean. I was just trying trying to help out a brother, not define what a swing is or isn't , if my sentnce wasn't clear then it's no surpise to me. I rarely say anything someone understands clearly the first time.

I mainly just convinced myself that I was a decent player and swings happen.

This is the wrong approach.

IMO of you are on a 20 buyin downswing and totally disregard the possibility that you suck at poker, you are being completely naive.

I don't know the villian offhand, but refusing to slow down here can't be correct.

First time I've posted cash game hh, I don't know what I'm doing. I think you can figure out what is going on though.

Default Re: 20 buy in downswing

In the last couple of months I als had a big downswing of about 15 buy-ins which was based partly on bad beats, tilt and bad play.
I took a break, opened up my pokertracker, looked at some hands and anylized my play.
I think it is really important to be objective in those spots. One cannot blame everything on bad beats. In my opinion, huge downswings are always also influenced by bad play to a certain degree.

After analyzing my handhistories I found some obvious mistakes I made which cost me a lot of money. As a consequence I started to play less tables, to play only when I am capable of playing my A-game and playing only if I am able to concentrate.

As a result my play improved massively. Tilt doesn't exist anymore, it is just cards that are dealt.
You should take the positive out of it. Moving through such a big downswing provides you with more exprience on your way to become a better player.

Always analyze your play, don't just blame it on beats etc. and you will wind up playing much better.
