because crowning a national champ isn't the end-all, be-all [/ QUOTE ] This is the only sentiment against a playoff I can understand, but it's such a vast minority that believes this that I think it's inevitable that we'll eventually see one. |

Re: Pretty good article on BCS evolution (very long)
Practically every game in the last three weeks of the season involving a top 10-12 team would be a massive game under an 8 team system. Instead, all but three or four games are basically pointless.
"Oh my god, if my team wins here, we could have a chance at being the #4 bowl choice and a 20 million dollar payout for our conference!" "This is a must win baby! We could make it to the bank bowl instead of the australian-themed steak restaurant bowl!" After hugely overrated Ohio State loses to Florida there will hopefully be even more controversy, as USC and LSU who lost games during the regular season (since they actually played real competition as opposed to the overrated garbage big ten) but are better than OSU will never have had a chance. |

Re: Pretty good article on BCS evolution (very long)

Yes, the BCS makes bowl games less important, obviously. But it makes regular season games more important. USC would be in a 8 team playoff this season, despite losing twice. [/ QUOTE ] No it doesn't. Look at the last couple of weeks of the season. There were only about 4 games that meant anything. If there were a playoff there would be 3 times that number of games that meant something. Ex. The ACC, Big East, Big 12 games at the end of the season didn't mean anything because none of the teams playing in those games were going to play for the NC. If there were a playoff those games would mean something. |
