Rootersod --
exactly! A straddle isn't the same as a dark bet since the action is still live. We had someone try to live straddle for more than twice the BB. We didn't let him, but I didn't have a good reason other than "I've never seen it done." (Of course, that didn't prevent him from dark-betting $50 UTG).

I didn't think it could be anything other than 2xBB for it to still be live, but wanted to check here.

In Las Vegas, it seems you can straddle almost anywhere, and some rooms allow re-straddles

SAY WHAT? Nu-uh. LV is anal about straddles. No place I know of allows restraddles and no place I know of allows straddling anywhere except immediately behind the BB.

Mind you, I have been at tables where the dealer got talked into allowing a restraddle, but the floor was displeased when he came over and saw it going on.

So... where in LV do they allow restraddles or straddles other than UTG?

i played in a live semiprivate game in NYC last week where the straddle could be either 2x or 3x the BB ($50 or $75), and a restraddle could also be 2x or 3x the previous (a $50 was restraddled to $150).

it was the first time i'd ever seen it, but it's a pretty well run game so i don't think they just made it up.

Bahhh... Perhaps I misspoke, Bav - To be honest, I've never *personally* seen a re-straddle, but according to Clarkmeister, you could restraddle at the Stardust. And I remember reading somewhere else that was Vegas related. Though perhaps it was an aberration?

In Washington State, the casinos I've visited allow straddles in LIMIT but NOT in No Limit. WTF?!

[/ QUOTE ]

Basically, in lieu of no-limit, WA allows 2 tribal casinos to spread up to $500 max-buy-in and max-bet Spread Limit. Likely the gov't sets a whole number of rules around that, including blind sizes.

In NYC private games anything bigger than 2x the BB placed by UTG is called a dark raise, and it is not live. NYC games also have whats called a sleeper which is similar to a straddle but it allows the hero to remove the raised blind in nobody calls. Sleepers are never UTG, and its very rarely performed (I've only seen it 2x)

Not true. Last year we straddled at the Wynn 5 ways and each one was live when we didn't straddle 5x. I look down at my cards and see 72o and announce to the dealer "I need a seven or a duce or I'm screwed". Of course the flop came 772 and JBB called me down like the donkey that he is
