I think it's silly to put so much blame on coaches for W-L records. Tom Landry went 0-11-1 in his first season. If he'd been fired we'd be talking about him as the worst of all time. Talent is a much more important variable than coaching.

Ron Rust is a good nomination. I forgot his name completely.
The Pats went 5-11 the year before Rust under Raymond Berry, 1-15 during Rust's year, then 6-10 the next year after he left under Dick McPherson. He sucked pretty bad. |

I think Barry Switzer deserves some consideration here (winning a SB despite himself) for taking what might have been the best team ever assembled and turning it into mockery.
