Re: scoring only one point in a football game
[ QUOTE ]
You can do this in a video game. Score a TD, and intentionally run backwards on the two point conversion for a safety. It makes the score 6-1. In real life, not so much. [/ QUOTE ] erm. safeties award 2 pts to the opposing team, not 1. |

Re: scoring only one point in a football game
Okay, all this stuff is really weird.
[ QUOTE ] So from the spot of the illegal kick, they could try to kick a 90-yard field goal for 1 point, or try a 80-yard pass/run for two points. [/ QUOTE ] In this case, if there was just 1 second left and they were down by exactly 2 points when this happened then they would DEFINITELY take the option to try for the 80-yard 2-point conversion attempt. Also - many of you already know this, but a Rouge in Canadian football counts for exactly 1 point and they aren't too uncommon I don't think. Not positivw how it work but I think this is just punting it out of the end-zone or the returner taking a touch-back. Basically, I think they have to always run it out or else they get a 1-pointer scored against them. Come to think of it, this could really add some excitement to the American version too if it were to be adopted. Kick-off goes into the end-zone, touchback, bring it out to the 20 = YAWN. |

Re: scoring only one point in a football game
Somebody told me that if a team comes out late for the second half, the other team is awarded 1 point, but I have no idea where to check in the rules to see if that's true or not.

Re: scoring only one point in a football game
The team that just scored this TD would actually be wise to just take a knee on the conversion attempt.
Even going for 2 to try to take a 3-point lead would be pointless with only 1 second left as I don't think the other team could set up in time for a FG attempt. Although I guess conceiveably the team that took the lead could take a celebration penalty and have to kick-off from their own 20. Weak-leg kicker doesn't boot it very far and receiving team fair-catches it so they get a 'free kick' to try a FG from the spot of the fair-catch. (I think that rule is correct, but a lot of you guys seem to really know your stuff about weird football rules). |

pretty sure if an extra point is blocked the play is whistled dead the second a defender from the opposing team has possession of it
