CZ:

I have done some pretty extensive research/testing as well. I have an Aeron with Posture Fit at home and love it. I have sat in Aerons for work on and off for about 6 years, as long as you have one that fits you (they come in 3 sizes), I think this will work for 99% of people.

For about the last 2-3 months, I've been sitting on a Zody at work. This is also quite comfortable, though I prefer a non-fabric chair. If you are open to a fabric chair, this should be on your list.

Also, if you have a Design Within Reach store near you, you should stop in and check out their chairs. They'll have aerons, leaps, humanscales, and some others (including other herman millers).

I owned a Freedom, I hated it. The back doesn't lock, which is cool at first but extremely annoying after a while. The "advanced arm-rests" are worthless (too small and uncomfortable) for using a mouse with your elbow pivoted on the armrest. The headrest didn't do anything to make it more comfortable either.

I'm switching back to an aeron, the last one I had was the wrong size for my body, but it was still far better than the freedom.

Oh something I forgot to mention. Tyler Durden said he used to work for Humanscale, so he could be understandably biased.

I'm pretty sure I would be much happier with just about any chair...even the Steelcase Think..a lame chair because it doesn't have any feedback when you lean back.
Steelcase pushes the idea of an even pressure distribution on your back w/ the wires they use, but it felt pretty weak.

The adjustments for the armrests on the Leap look good (fluid adjustments left, right, up, down, pivot, and 3 inches back and forward).

I'm not opposed to a fabric chair, so I'll add this one to the prospects. I'd actually prefer my chair to breath, so I'm not looking for leather or anything.

You're from Seattle? I went to the Design Within Reach last week, right when they were closing, the one downtown by the Moore. I think I may have seen the Zody, not sure, but they had the Aeron and the Humanscale Freedom. (The sales guy that talked to me seemed a little rude...probably just wanted to boot me out. Guess they don't get commissions or I don't look like a good customer to work on. )

holy crap! these chairs are expensive!!

OK, I'm going to be working from home a bunch, I don't have any chair yet, is one of these chairs worth it?

Thanks to OOT, I already have $100 jeans, $30 T-shirts, $200 sun glasses and $150 gray pants. Is a $600 [1]CHAIR next on the list?!?!

My last chair was $50 from Office Depot, was a piece of crap, but I didn't mind.

Will I notice a difference? Any point in cheaping out and getting the $200 Space Chair? Or am I wasting money in between $60 and $500?

Man, sometimes ignorance really is bliss...

Also, what's the deal with sitting on a huge ball? Is that a joke? Anyone done it?

Yes, it's worth it. You have one back and I view this as a productivity + longterm health benefit. In fact, I don't even want to spend this kind of money on a chair, but this is an investment.

I'm also a little bit of a health nut (although I could be much better). I don't want my spine to be in an effed up shape when I'm old. This can be prevented hopefully, and we're not made to be sitting on our arses all day long as humans...but we've grown to become "knowledge workers" or whatever Peter Drucker said/predicted.

This I don't do. I wear $10 tshirts and hoodies, $20 or whatever Dickies, $30 chuck taylors (a rip-off if you ask me). Thrift, vintage, antique, used, etc., stores also own in my book. $30 tshirts are retarded IMO. $20 Urban Outfitters tshirts I gag at. Then again, I don't dress to impress anyone but myself.

Edit: I do have a bad habit of buying $100 sunglasses and breaking them.

Oh I also dropped by a Relax the Back store and I had a chairgasm trying those chairs out. Good thing I brought wetnaps.

They didn't have the Freedom on display..maybe some stores carry them and or it's just an online thing. Back to the Design Within Reach store sometime, I guess.

I just want to get this over with so I can move on and watch my pornographies in ergo style.

The salesman, while having good reason to say so, said that the Aeron's fabric tends to stretch out making it more uncomfortable over time.

I have done a bunch of testing, and I settled on a HM Aeron. I am very, very pleased with the decision (have owned the chair for 6 months now).

EDIT: I'm also from Seattle. Where do you live?

Ballard area here, close to the Azteca off of Market St. Holla.

Edit: The Aeron is a pretty chair and the original default choice.

So you got the mid back version? Also is it really better to get the chair in leather? What's wrong with fabric?
