Re: Ask me about going into people\'s homes to sell them knives.
[ QUOTE ]
Were you a good people person before taking the job? After? Did you believe in the product you were selling? What was your average sales per house visit? Did this increase as you got better at being a salesman? 3 of my friends just started doing this for CUTCO; any advice for them? Most you've ever sold in a single house visit? % of houses you visited that didn't buy anything? [/ QUOTE ] I was a pretty good people person before the job and markedly more so afterwards. I totally believed in CUTCO cutlery. We used to say it is the Rolls Royce of cutlery and that is spot on. Anybody who has ever used them will tell you the same thing. My average sale was around $220. The company average was around $160. I started off doing horribly so yes, I did show a lot of improvement. My advice for your friends: This is the easiest money you'll ever make if you work your ass off. One of the main things I liked about the job is that you get paid what you're worth. Meaning if you put a lot into it you will make a bunch of money. But if you're lazy and expect things to just happen, you'll make close to nothing. The most I've ever sold in a single visit was around $2,000 and I was making 50% at the time. My % that didn't buy was approximately 18%. Hope this helps. |

Re: Ask me about going into people\'s homes to sell them knives.
At the end of the three summers I had sold over $53,000 worth.
$13,000 after the first summer, $40,000 after the second and then came the rest. Selling was easy b/c the product sells itself. It was the scheduling of the appointments that took more effort (collecting referrals and contacting referrals via the telephone). |

Re: Ask me about going into people\'s homes to sell them knives.
I knew a few people that attended the recruitment seminar or whatever it is, and they were convinced that strong efforts were made to steer away minorities, and also the few attendees who were black were the only ones who were not ultimately offered the job.
It makes some sense that they would do so since most people are probably a million times more comfortable with a college age white stranger in the house than a black stranger. Does this seem at all consistant with what you saw? |

Re: Ask me about going into people\'s homes to sell them knives.
If the first summer you made 5000, averaging 220 a sale, then you must have made a sale like every 1/4 day? That must have been incredibly discouraging. Second question, is this company affiliated with vector? Two of my brothers and a few other friends got recruited by them but quit before training ended. It sounded very sketchy and hard to make money.
I've sold the paper door to door and it sucks. It sucks balls. |

When I was recruiting (both when I was a field assistant in my manager's office and when I opened my own office) our goal was to hire anybody who could fog up a glass. It costs very little to train someone and it is just as easy to train 45 people in the 3-day seminar as it is 15 people. We only stand to make more money by hiring more people. That said, the company's upper management (those running their own offices) was about 95% Caucasian. |

God Vector sucks.
They will suck the soul out of you, and stalk you. The worst part of that job was the manipulation, and taking advantage of people's inability to say no. |

Re: Ask me about going into people\'s homes to sell them knives.
Can you explain why they are the Rolls Royce of knives? What is so good about them that ppl will spend like 2k on a set of knives?
