Maybe. But the Cubs signing Meche to be their fifth starter and the Royals signing him to be their ace are two entirely different things.

Given his medical history and performance to date, I think this is an awful sign by KC.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not to mention Gil Meche isn't going to lead anyone to the playoffs. Now the Royals have no money to spend.

[/ QUOTE ]

kyro - But the Royals have perfectly positioned themselves to have Meche in place to pitch the all-important Game 4 of the 2011 AL Wild Card series! All for the low, low price of $45 million.

ESPN's Steve Phillips reported Thursday that the Royals were closing in on a four-year deal with Gil Meche worth a reported $45 million.

[/ QUOTE ] The deal is actually for five years with terms undisclosed.

Anyway: as a Cubs fan, I sent this to the Royals GM. .

Don't worry, bro. I'm sure you'll have time to celebrate when the Cubbies drop a 4 year/$44M deal on Suppan!

Gil Meche’s five-year deal with the Royals will be worth $55 million-$60 million, the Kansas City Star reports.

Hehehehhe

Meche is 55-44 with a 4.65 ERA in a six-year career spent entirely with the Mariners. He had a career-high 15 victories in 2003 and would presumably head a rotation projected to include Odalis Perez, Luke Hudson Jorge De La Rosa and either Brian Bannister or Zack Greinke.

[/ QUOTE ]

That is a god awful rotation.

I'm glad the Royals got him. Mainly because I didn't want the Jays to get stuck with another stiff.

If Meche can get $12M a year, Clemens has to be asking for $20M to even get away from the buffet table.

Between this and the Lilly deal, I don't see how the Red Sox are convincing Boras that Matsuszaka is worth less than 10 mil per year

If the [censored] MARINERS don't want him back, that should be a serious clue to anyone who is thinking about signing him.
