Given how recent events get more play, I expected someone to say "Barbaro" by now (not that I would).
The Magic Johnson announcement is probably my pick also. I was at that age where I was just out of HS and a huge NBA fan, and it was just stunning. And this was in a time when the perception was that HIV = AIDS = certain death. Hard to comprehend at the time, particularly since he wasn't far from the peak of his career. I could also see old-timers saying Roberto Clemente or Thurman Munson, but we don't have many of them around here. |

I remember, like it just happened, Jim McKay saying, "They're all dead. They're all gone."

[ QUOTE ] they just replayed the Jim Valvano speech, i cant think of a sadder moment, maybe Lou Gehrigs speech? [/ QUOTE ] If you meant most uplifting and inspirational moments, then yes, these two are excellent candidates. [/ QUOTE ] very inspirational but i think sad as well because he needed help down the stairs at the end, i got emotional this year too, i used to think i was a tuff city kid, but since i had my baby im an emotional mess |

OSU-Michigan '96. Shawn Springs slips and Tai Streets scores a touchdown. No national championship for OSU. Now that's sad.
