You need a seperate driver installation for your network card. Do you have another CD labeled perhaps drivers and diagnostics? If not try clicking on adding a network connection and it should request you install the original operating system CD, then follow the instructions.

Could also be your drivers are disabled in your device manager.

He said he can get on the internet, etc so you know that his drivers are working correctly.

Well I guess I misinterpreted his "the machine is on the internet" not to mean it was connecting to the internet.

In that case the solution is most likely pretty simple, he isn't sharing his PC on the network.

If that were the case, I'd be able to access the pcs that nothing had changed with.

I am posting this message from the computer in question. I appreciate everyone's help as I am still baffled.

Oatmeal, did you try pinging/mapping the drives using an IP address instead of the DNS Name??

It appears to be a DNS issue.

I am able to ping the IP. When i attempt to access the C drive of another PC it asks me for the password, but there should not be a password for that machine as I never created one.

when you try to map the drive, does it automatically use the Guest account when it asks you for the password??

if so, it's because you're using XP Home...and it...sucks.

It does automatically use the guest account. So any suggestions now that it seems we may have identified the issue? (We did identify that I have a DNS issue, right?)

Give the guest account administrative rights and either use a password or just use the carriage return for no password.

Give the Guest account administrative rights like WUC said above, but also...you need to make sure that on all your systems, all of your user accounts have passwords set.

Please, please, please.

Do you have a firewall going? If so, I had the same problem. I had to go to zones and add ip addresses to be able to access the computer. After that, I could access my other computers from each other.
