yeah, I forgot that they have some of those super low-limit rooms in Florida.
I thought the highest they were allowed to do there was 1/2.
Either they changed this eventually to go ALL THE WAY UP to 2/4...or I'm remembering incorrectly.

Cherokee NC added a poker room structure. They tried to claim poker fell under their bingo pact with NC but the state said no. Currently their gaming pact does not allow games with cards. The poker room is finished but Easley wanted something like $4,000,000 to the state a year for table games. The tribe said no as they really have no motivation to pay the state anything. Currently their pact only pays the state for problem gambler help and infrastructure improvements for Cherokee and surrounding areas.

At this point they do not pay anything to the state so why start now? The place already makes a killing with its monopoly. Currently all games are video or slots including a mock bj game that has chips and delaers but cards are video. The poker room has become a non smoking VP/slots area. The only reason this place is successful is because SC, GA and NC have all banned video poker in the 2000's and this is the only place that these players that were hooked can get their fix. The casino is a graveyard for banned video poker games from those states. I believe it is the only casino that has Pot o' Gold machines. They are the most popular game there and not licensed in any casino state that I know of for varioud reasons. There are no casinos or even legal cash paying VP machines for many hours of driving any direction.

There is a company called Pokertek that makes video holdem tables and I figured this would be perfect for Cherokee. The company is even based in NC and in spirit the machine falls under the rules. I would think in the next year or so these machines will find there way into Cherokee unless real cards are allowed.

For now just stay away. It is easily the worst Harrahs and close to worst casino. It does not even have alcohol.

What is Pot-o-gold and what are some of the various reasons they not licensed in any other state?

Pot o Gold's are manufactured by Vision Gaming in Norcross, GA.

The machines, at least the older ones (not sure about the new design) can be rigged to pay out by % not by random cards. Since most gaming jurisdictions require cards to be random just like a deck of cards these machines would not be able to get licensed. These machines were all over Alabama, Georgia, SC and NC. Their flagship game is called Shamrock 7's, a variation of joker poker. They also have very low paying VP games and keno games.

I've been looking to buy a manual for one of those machines if anyone has one. *hint*

From Raleigh, you are best off driving to Atlantic City.

If you are still in Raleigh a friend in Atlanta told me he has played poker on a boat that goes out in the water in Myrtle Beach for two five hour shifts a day.
