It is conceivable they both have better hands.
Still, I can't ever remember capping the turn and then check-folding the river when a blank came. So "strange" is certainly a description of the play in this hand. |

[ QUOTE ]
It turned out that the check-raise had an elimination chance, but it was thin.Usually,in this situation, with the pre-flop raiser on left, you have a better chance of eliminating somebody by betting out. Then if utg raises, maybe this will "bounce"the button out. [/ QUOTE ] I disagree with you, I think checkraising the flop will give the hero a higher chance of winning the pot UI than betting out. And IMO, the strategy that wins the pot UI the most often will be the best play here. I do think though that what were talking about here is very close so it probably doesnt really matter. Sometimes I will also check/call the flop with the intention of check/raising or donking the turn if the middle guy folds. |

Heck, I misread 'em live when they're in front of me.
Thinking about Mike's post title, poker's strange sometimes no matter how we play. Mike sweated me a bit yesterday in a 60 game. I raised one hand with A-K and both blinds folded. Mike says, "You won $100. Cool." We just kinda looked at each other recognzing the absurdity of people just giving up and "giving" me $100. Real money, American. After I cashed out, I sweated Mike and he lost with pocket jacks twice in five minutes and another hand with top pair of aces, and then I sweated another 2+2er who lost, in one round, with A-K once and with A-A twice. They voted I should go home. I did. |

"Im sure youve heard that speech before."
heard it? ive given it! im experimenting with cold calling from the sb sometimes, with mixed results. "I am interested in your thought process behing your "check out of nowhere" river play." i felt there was a very strong chance i was beat. people dont just cold-3 bet turns out of nowhere. |

With no info on either player, bet call the river. As is stressed on this forum constantly, online is different than live. This is one of those situations where folding online is a huge mistake.
