what a joke. Howard had better power numbers, but Pujos had better average, baserunning, and superior defense.

[/ QUOTE ]

You really think that Pujols defense (at first base) and baserunning make that much difference?

Or batting average for that matter?

If Pujols hadn't been injured for that stretch, he would have won hands down. Great year for Howard, and a close NL MVP race IMO.

Pujols had a better year, and Beltran probably as well. I think Cabrera and Howard were neck and neck - but Berkman? Why?

berkman was dominant down the stretch, he might have won it if the astros knocked pujols and the cardinals out of the playoffs, which they almost did.

So if the Cards are in any other division and the Cards don't make the playoffs you guys still think Pujois deserves the award? The Phillies, if there weren't divisions, would have gone ahead of the Cardinals. And yes the last month of the season plays a HUGE roll in these polls. Keep that in mind. Cardinals were HORRIBLE at the end of the season. Yes they were awesome during the playoffs but this was voted on before the playoffs.

Ryan Ho has things voters love.

1) Power totals
2) End of season hot streak

Pujols has what wins games. You give him his injured spell back. He takes this award down no question.

I'm not arguing that Pujols wasn't the right choice. I just think that his defense and base running and higher BA weren't the reasons why.
