Great, so I unwittingly advised someone to break a tax law. Time to live the rest of my life on a boat in international waters.

It's kinda funny how I just explained what a majority of poker players actually do to solve the "need a lot of cash to play a big game" problem, and it's turned into a discussion of why precisely that is illegal. It makes me wonder why they even allow casinos to have boxes, or why they don't have alarms going off if you take chips off the premises. It's basically enabling people to do that structuring thing.

THe only part that is illegal is deliberately avoiding the 10k mark (of cash transactions; chips are irrelevent) so that it's not reported to the IRS.

[ QUOTE ]
A friend of mine moved money with a shopping bag and a sweater on top of the cash.

It's very possible to get a whole lot of cash, mainly by keeping money as chips in a box, then playing for a while, and then spending a few weeks getting your $10k limit per night. With friends you can easily get a hundred grand cash in a week.

[/ QUOTE ]

whats bad about wiring more than 10k in a single transaction? assuming i'm paying taxes like a good boy.
