OP, I have no idea about who anyone in your OP is, and Im 24. [/ QUOTE ] ![]() Waylon Jennings. Bass player for Buddy Holly, went on to Nashville. Had a little success there before moving to Austin, getting together with Billy Joe Shaver, Tompall Glaser and Willie Nelson to form what would be called "Outlaw" country music. Recorded an album of songs written by Shaver, "Honky Tonk Heroes" in 1973, which is one of my top 6 favorite albums of all time. Went on to become part of the Highwaymen along with Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. His most recognizable hit, however, is the theme from Dukes of Hazzard. |

Waylon was also supposed to be on the plane that crashed, killing Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. He had a bad feeling about the flight and decided to take the bus instead. He jokingly said, “I hope your old plane crashes” to Holly as he left.

OP, I have no idea about who anyone in your OP is, and Im 24. [/ QUOTE ] Townes Van Zandt ![]() Tremendous, abeit insane, singer-songwriter. His singing voice is not pleasing to most listeners or he would have had more commercial success. He is considered a god to folk musicians and many people from Texas. Songs he wrote that were successful covers by other acts: "Pancho and Lefty" Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard "Who do you Love" George Thorogood and the Destroyers "Dead Flowers" The Rolling Stones TVZ recorded recorded sporadically in the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. Very low-brain wave, yet poetic stuff. Always a touch of sarcasm and anger to go with the sadness, which makes it different than the emo stuff I'm compaining about. His breakthrough song, "Waiting to Die" Sometimes I don't know where this dirty road is taking me Sometimes I can't even see the reason why I guess I keep on gamblin', lots of booze and lots of ramblin' It's easier than just a-waitin' 'round to die One-time friends I had a ma, I even had a pa He beat her with a belt once cause she cried She told him to take care of me, she headed down to Tennessee It's easier than just a-waitin' 'round to die I came of age and found a girl in a Tuscaloosa bar She cleaned me out and hit it on the sly I tried to kill the pain, I bought some wine and hopped a train Seemed easier than just a-waitin' 'round to die A friend said he knew where some easy money was We robbed a man and brother did we fly The posse caught up with me, drug me back to Muskogee It's two long years, just a-waitin' 'round to die Now I'm out of prison, I got me a friend at last He don't steal or cheat or drink or lie His name's codeine, he's the nicest thing I've seen Together we're gonna wait around and die |

that's cool guids
I'm sure there're some people who don't know. The two moments that shaped how I view the world were the first time I heard Hank Williams, and the first time I heard Townes Van Zandt. The first time I heard TVZ was about a year and a half ago. That's cool though, if I would have heard it when I was 20 instead of 25, I might not have survived. |

Townes Van Zandt ![]() [/ QUOTE ] you can kind of tell he has dentures there. From the time he fell asleep with a bottle of airplane glue in his mouth. |

I've heard one song by the Cary Brothers. "Supposed to Be" I like it.

So here's my question...I never listen to music on the radio, and am very disconnected from pop culture in general. Is this the kind of stuff white people in their 20s are supposed to listen to these days? a guy who looks like this: ![]() singing about his feelings? [/ QUOTE ] Yes that's what they listen to. They all sound exactly the same too. There's that one really pretentious male voice they all strive for. They also think rap is an invalid art form. |
