With a flop raise we're giving UTG ~8.5:1 for UTG to call. Is a flop raise really protecting our hand better than a safe-turn card raise?

I think you're right in that a safe turn card raise would protect our hand from UTG better than the flop raise. However, when we are behind CO we lose more from this line than had we just raised the flop, called CO's 3-bet, and folded the turn UI. With all the action that's going on I really don't want to go 2BB on the turn just to protect a hand that may not be good in the first place. If CO has us beat he will lead the turn and we can safely fold. If he was 3-betting some other hand like 99, AK, or AQ, then we'll see a check out of him on the turn often enough for me to like this play.

I'm not concerned about protecting against UTG's hand, there's no need to. If we're ahead of CO, then they both share their outs the majority of the time.

This is a call and reevaluate every street hand for me.

Yeah I hate the flop play.

I like the flop lead as the cheapest way to get rid of a loser. You have to fold to the raise though.

lol at the way you play poker.

OP, I like your line.

There aren't that many 1/2 players 3-betting AK here.

I have doubts about that...

I would probably play this the same.

I raised the flop mainly to find out if CO capped with a made hand or if he just had overs. I wasn't too worried about UTG who looks like a small pp. I normally dislike this kind of play, but now that I did raise and got the information I asked for folding felt mandatory. I call the 3-bet on the flop cause the pot is large and because I try to avoid raising and folding on the same street.
My alternate line would be to call flop and turn. On the river I fold to a bet but bet if checked to.
