They extended Sheff's deal to 3 years.

I saw that deal is contingent on Sheffield agreeing to an extension through '09. Is he going to play 1B? Or are they going to convert Monroe to 1B?

I'm not sure Sanchez potential > Linebrink, if that was a legit offer.

OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME

What do you know about Sanchez?

[/ QUOTE ]

Last year in AA and AAA he allowed 3.4 bb/9 and .3 homers/9 while striking out 9/9. He is kind of old for a prospect(23), but its great deal IMO.

Now I hope the Yanks sign JD Drew even though everyone tells me how awful he is.

Drew isn't awful, he's just expensive for someone who averages 450-475 PA per season (estimate: I didn't actually check). That means you need to also pay another good player to play the other 100-150 PAs. Drew just isn't worth the headaches.

Yankees have Melky(+ $$$) so that shouldn't be a problem if he happens to get hurt.

400 PA's of Drew + Melky >>>>>>> Soriano or Lee or whomever.

A better thread title would be "Yankees dump Sheffield on Tigers".

I know that the Tigers wanted to trade pitching for hitting, but given the number of teams that need pitching, surely they could have done better than a 38-year-old with a bad attitude?

Ugh, Melky is not good enough to play for the Yankees.

He's good enough to be a 4th outfielder, especially at minimum salary.
