Where does an undefeated Boise State come into play?
A one loss Cal or USC?
A one loss Notre Dame?
The SEC Champ?

if USC can run the table, they might be in charge of their destiny

but, their is an impression of Florida upon the voters for some reason

FWIW those are my answers to your poll. I think you should expand it to include Auburn IMHO though.

I'm trying to simplify things. Obviously, there's going to be one team that represents the "best 1-loss team from a high-profile program that isn't Michigan" category.

Or maybe not. It's possible that Rutgers deserves to rank somewhere in the middle of the Texas/Florida/Auburn/etc. group. But imagine that there are only three options ...

Actually, I'm not the first to point this out, but the thing about Texas is that under this scenario both they and Michigan would each have one loss, and each loss would be to OSU. But Texas' loss would have come by 17 points at home, whereas Michigan's would have come by 7 points on the road.

If USC wins out wouldn't they go ahead of Texas, and also deserve it more? A 1 loss Cal or Auburn would also deserve it more than any of the 3 bottom choices.

What about USC? I think they would have a shot in that case.

Texas, Rutgers

but, it's really Florida's to lose now

Depends on the Human Polls for both Rutgers & Florida. Rutgers may be ahead in their computer average. We need to win some convincing games & need some help like Auburn getting to the SECCG game with 1 loss & FSU winning out until they play us.

Well, the conventional wisdom is that Rutgers benefits from each team in the Texas/Auburn/Florida/USC group (maybe Notre Dame too?) that takes a loss.

There's an argument, however, that the more of these teams that stay in the running, the more the vote is split amongst them. What Rutgers needs to avoid is a bandwagon scenario where one of those clubs emerges as the "consensus" #2.
