It is a musical piece that has been featured in cartoons when depicting a factory or industrial setting.

Oddly enough, I could instantly hum the tune in my head, even though I've never seen the Visa commercial, or heard of Raymond Scott and his song Powerhouse.

Just mention old cartoons and factories and this tune instantly comes to mind. I imagine some Mob Guy chasing bugs through conveyor belts and gears and such, hilarious.

Good song - some great Bugs Bunny Classical music. The commercial is pretty stupid though.

Awesome. I knew what song you meant, and I haven't even seen the Visa ad.

Now, somebody find the Loony Tunes version, with the horn section. I *love* that.

CAT: C'mon, C'mon, deal the cards, deal the cards!

DOG: Wanna play for penalties?

CAT: Yeah yeah, sure sure, just deal the cards!

DOG: (picks up one card) GIN!

(cue sad music. Cat mopes over to giant wheel, spins it. Looks up corresponding number in file cabinet.)

CAT: (panicked) Oh no, not that! (cue "powerhouse" music) Not "Roll out the Barrel"!! No, not that! Not "Roll out the Barrel"!!!

(Dog grabs Cat by the throat, drags him off screen as music crescendos)

(Cut to Cat manning a wheelbarrow, which has a huge keg of gunpowder in it. Dog takes cork out of hole in side of barrell, gunpowder spills out. Dog fires a starter's gun, and Cat runs like a bastard with the wheelbarrow over the horizon, leaving a trail of gunpowder in his wake. Dog lights the gunpowder. Spark travels along trail of gunpowder. As soon as spark disappears over the horizon, a huge explosion is heard, and the flash is reflected in the sky.)

Cut to Cat, badly wounded and bandaged in many places. He gets bit by the Gambling Bug again, and again frantically pesters Dog to play Gin again. Repeat the above scene three or four times, only with a different penalty each time.

"No, not 'Happy Birthday', not that!"
"No, not 'The Thinker'! Not that!"
"No, not 'The Works'! Please, not that!"

Be sure to play that "Powerhouse" music each time. Tell the horn section to go nuts.

Holy cow, somebody posted it on YouTube.

I love all the music in this one, especially the high-pitched "We're in the Money" when the bug is onscreen.

Soul Coughing samples this in their song "Bus to Beelzebub." Never knew it was a Raymond Scott piece.
